‘Tis the season, so my partner and I wrote a little Christmas tune.

This year, I read 100 books, and almost half of them were romances. Here's a little essay on the joys (and perils) of reading romances. johnwest.substack.com/p/the-ye

And here's a network graph of my favorite books this year.

Here's a fun for y'all. Using Stable Diffusion, a couple home-brewed Python scripts, and Svelte, I illustrated Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" from LEAVES OF GRASS.

It's not complete yet, but here's a proof of concept: beebe-west.com/viz/leaves-of-g.

Each stanza looks like this, in the style of the artist John Singer Sargent.

What should I do with this?

Hey I upgraded my servers, and it seemed to break my public profile page... Any thoughts?

I'm contemplating a in which I have Stable Diffusion illustrate Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" from LEAVES OF GRASS (probably in the style of John Singer Sargent or something similar) and I have a "perform" the poem by posting one stanza + image, one a day, till the poem is done.

Here's the twelfth section of the poem. Does this look interesting to you?

I'm just loving following @simon's hashtag, so here's a of mine.

@stryker posts an image from the Library of Congress's archive of the old FSA photos, but the catch is that it only posts the ones that were "destroyed" (literally hole-punched through) by the the mercurial head of the FSA photo project, Roy Stryker.

It looks like this.
